The US president has said there\u2019s \u201cgreat interest\u201d among American investors in buying the app<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n US President Donald Trump has said Microsoft is among the companies considering the purchase of TikTok\u2019s US subsidiary, media have reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n TikTok briefly shut down in the US last weekend after parent company ByteDance missed a January 19 deadline to divest of its American operations, as mandated by a Supreme Court ruling over national security concerns. Hours later, Trump announced a 90-day extension and proposed a plan for the US acquisition of a majority stake in TikTok.\u00a0<\/p>\n Asked by reporters on board Air Force One about Microsoft\u2019s potential acquisition of TikTok on Monday, Trump said, \u201cI would say yes,\u201d<\/em> adding that there is \u201ca lot of interest in TikTok. There\u2019s great interest in TikTok.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Trump mentioned that other companies were also interested in acquiring TikTok but did not disclose their names.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI like bidding wars because you make your best deals,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n If it goes through, the deal with Microsoft would place the video-sharing app under the control of one of America\u2019s most valuable tech companies, which has been expanding aggressively into areas including artificial intelligence and gaming.<\/p>\n Microsoft did not respond to media requests for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n TikTok, with about 170 million US users, has attracted significant interest from American investors.<\/p>\n AI startup Perplexity AI has proposed a merger with TikTok\u2019s US operations, suggesting that the government could acquire up to a 50% stake in the new entity following an initial public offering. Additionally, billionaire Frank McCourt, former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers \u2013 a Major League Baseball team \u2013 has made a formal offer to acquire TikTok\u2019s US assets.<\/p>\n
