The US leader has ordered airstrikes in Somalia as a \u201cmessage\u201d to Islamic State terrorists and other adversaries<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Donald Trump has\u00a0ordered precision airstrikes in Somalia targeting an\u00a0unnamed senior Islamic State (IS) attack planner and other militants, according to\u00a0announcements on Truth Social and X accounts.<\/p>\n

The airstrikes were carried out in the Golis Mountains of Somalia\u2019s Bari region,\u00a0allegedly resulting in the destruction of terrorist hideouts and the deaths of multiple militants. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that, according to the Pentagon\u2019s \u201cinitial assessment,\u201d<\/em> no civilians were harmed in the operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our allies,\u201d<\/em> Trump wrote on Saturday. \u201cThe strikes destroyed the caves they lived in and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Trump claimed that the US military had been tracking the unnamed attack planner for years, but former President Joe Biden and\u00a0\u201chis cronies wouldn\u2019t act quickly enough to get the job done.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI did it! The message to ISIS and all others who would attack Americans is that \u2018WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!\u2019\u201d<\/em> the US president added.<\/p>\n

The Pentagon did not identify the neutralized \u201c<\/em>planner\u201d<\/em><\/em>\u00a0but insisted that the airstrikes had degraded the group\u2019s ability to \u201cplot and conduct terrorist attacks\u201d<\/em> and served as a \u201cclear signal that the United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The operation was reportedly carried out in coordination with Somali authorities, who confirmed that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had been \u201c<\/em>informed of the US strike.\u201d<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cI extend my deepest gratitude for the unwavering support of the United States in our shared fight against terrorism,\u201d<\/em> Mohamud said, praising Trump for his \u201cbold and decisive leadership.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The Islamic State in Somalia emerged in 2015 after a faction split from the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Shabaab group. While al-Shabaab remains the dominant terrorist organization in the region, IS has been attempting to expand its influence, particularly in the northern parts of the country.<\/p>\n

At the end of his first term, Trump ordered<\/a> a near-total withdrawal of US troops from Somalia.
