The US president has also expressed hope he will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the coming days, too<\/strong><\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump has stated that he will likely have face-to-face talks with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky as early as next week. The official added that he would like to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin soon as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since his inauguration last month, Trump\u2019s administration has been sending signals, regarding potential peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. No details have been forthcoming to date though. Commenting on the prospect of such dialogue, officials in Moscow have expressed cautious optimism.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Addressing the press during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the White House on Friday, President Trump said: \u201cI will probably be meeting with President [Vladimir] Zelensky next week.\u201d<\/em> He added that talks would most likely take place on US soil, as \u201cI\u2019m not going there.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I will probably be talking to [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin. I\u2019d like to see that war end,\u201d<\/em> the US head of state proclaimed. According to Trump, \u201cPresident Putin and I have always had a good relationship.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump reiterated his long-standing point that the conflict would never have started, had he been in office back in February 2022. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The US president also said that he would like to discuss the \u201csecurity\u201d<\/em> of Ukraine\u2019s rare-earth deposits with Zelensky. On Monday, he similarly stated that \u201cwe are looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they are going to secure what we are giving to them with the rare earths and other things.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump once again accused NATO\u2019s European member states of expending far fewer resources than the US on supporting Ukraine, promising to \u201cequalize\u201d<\/em> the situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Commenting on Trump\u2019s latest remarks in a post on X, formerly Twitter, late on Friday, Zelensky wrote: \u201cThe coming weeks may be very intensive in diplomacy, and we will do what\u2019s needed to make this time effective and productive.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
