The US departments of defense and education are next in line for budget reviews, President Donald Trump has confirmed<\/strong><\/p>\n Elon Musk, as head of the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been tasked with revising federal spending, and has set his sights on the Pentagon and the Department of Education, US President Donald Trump has confirmed. The newly authorized audits come in line with a broad push to slash public expenses.<\/p>\n Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla and owner of X (formerly Twitter), has been appointed as a \u201cspecial government employee\u201d<\/em> to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) under Trump\u2019s administration, and is currently among the president\u2019s key advisers. Despite its name, the agency is not a permanent federal executive department, but a temporary body dedicated to reducing government spending. Its primary goal is to cut up to $2 trillion in federal expenditures by July 2026.<\/p>\n Speaking at the press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Friday, Trump said that Musk will go through \u201cjust about everything\u201d<\/em> while reviewing the budgets of the departments.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve instructed him to go check out education to check out the Pentagon, which is the military, and sadly you\u2019ll find some things that are pretty bad, but I don\u2019t think proportionately, you\u2019re going to see anything like we just saw,\u201d<\/em> Trump said, highlighting that the DOGE would find \u201ca lot,\u201d<\/em> taking into account how \u201cbad\u201d<\/em> it was \u201cwith what we just went.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Earlier this week, Trump stated that billions of dollars have been stolen by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), highlighting that the lion\u2019s share of the funds were used to pay for positive media coverage of Democrats.<\/p>\n
