Christoph Heusgen because too emotional and cut short his closing remarks at the event<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n Christoph Heusgen, the chairman of the Munich Security Conference (MSC), couldn\u2019t conclude his closing speech during this year\u2019s international gathering, as he became emotional while emphasizing the urgent need to preserve the \u201crules-based order.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n On Monday, former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg succeeded Heusgen as the chief MSC organizer. In his final address on Sunday, Heusgen underscored the conference\u2019s significance while acknowledging the impact of explosive comments made<\/a> by US Vice President J.D. Vance earlier. He lamented: \u201cWe must fear that our common value base is no longer so common.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Vance criticized EU and UK politicians for upholding \u201cold entrenched interests hiding behind ugly Soviet era words like misinformation and disinformation,\u201d<\/em> asserting their failure to respond to constituents. He warned that if this trend continues, \u201cthere is nothing America can do for you.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIt is clear that our rules-based International order is under pressure,\u201d<\/em> Heusgen stated, noting that while this order is \u201ceasy to destroy\u2026 it\u2019s much harder to rebuild.\u201d<\/em> He urged Western officials to remain committed to those values and praised Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky as a defender of the Western way of life by fighting against Russia.<\/p>\n As Heusgen spoke about the perceived decline of the world order, his emotions nearly brought him to tears, which led him to cut the speech short. The audience responded with a standing ovation, some offering him hugs.<\/p>\n
