US President Donald Trump has vowed to ramp up expulsions of illegal migrants from the country<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mexico has refused to allow a US military plane carrying deportees to land on its territory, NBC News and Reuters reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n

After taking office on Monday, US President Donald Trump declared an emergency at the southern border and vowed to ramp up deportations of illegal migrants.<\/p>\n

NBC News cited two US defense officials and a third source as saying that a C-17 military transport plane carrying an unspecified number of migrants was scheduled to land in Mexico, but never took off.<\/p>\n

Two similar flights to Guatemala with around 80 migrants aboard each proceeded as planned on Friday.<\/p>\n

A Mexican official confirmed to Reuters that the US plane was not granted permission to land in the country. He did not provide a reason for the denial, the agency said.<\/p>\n

In a text message to NBC News, an unnamed White House official said, \u201cthe flights thing was an administrative issue and was quickly rectified.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

On Saturday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote on X that \u201cthanks to President Trump: Yesterday, Mexico accepted a record 4 deportation flights in 1 day!\u201d<\/em> She linked an article about the canceled flight to her post.<\/p>\n

The Mexican Foreign Ministry did not explain why the plane was barred from landing in the country in a statement on Friday. It only said that \u201cMexico has a very good relationship with the US government and we cooperate with respect for our sovereignty on a wide range of issues, including migration.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen it comes to repatriations, we will always welcome the arrival of Mexicans to our territory with open arms,\u201d<\/em> the ministry stated.<\/p>\n

Under Trump\u2019s order, the Pentagon earlier dispatched 1,500 more soldiers to help southern border agents to monitor and process migrants. The new administration also said it is re-launching the \u2018Remain in Mexico\u2019 program, according to which non-Mexican asylum seekers should wait in Mexico while their cases are being processed in the US.<\/p>\n

The new US president has also declared Mexican drug cartels terrorist organizations, renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and threatened to slap 25% tariffs on Mexican goods starting from next month.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stressed the need to stay \u201ccalm\u201d<\/em> and \u201ccool-headed\u201d<\/em> when it comes to relations with the Trump administration.
